The purpose of this program is to provide youth in grades 9-12 with leadership opportunities, connection to community and peers, and to explore career opportunities.
During the summer, youth in Grades 9-12 were given the opportunity to explore career opportunities and their build resumes. They also were able to connect with the community and their peers by participating in activities like wood-working, community clean-up, Foam Fighters and picnics.
These youth are currently volunteering their time to be Trusted Mentors for our younger participants in our COLS and Auxiliary Programs throughout the school year.
Take a look at all the amazing things these youth got up to this summer!
GOODHoops x AYP Basketball Camp
The high school students help facilitate the GOODHoops x AYP Collaboration Basketball Camp in the early days of August. Many new community connections were built and tons of fun was had!
Beverly Pocket Park
The High School Program collaborated with the Beverly Community by participating in the Pocket Park Initiative. Our leadership group brainstormed activities and games we could play at the park to create a welcoming environment for kids in the Abbottsfield Community. Tie-dying socks, giant checkers, scootering, parachute games, etc!
Lots of fun on field trips!
This past summer was filled with many different field trips such as the Zoo, Rec Room, Foam Fighters, as well as visiting Elk Island.
Birdhouses for the community!
For the third year in a row, we collaborated with PCL construction. This year they built and painted brand-new birdhouses for the Hairsine Community League. The participants also engaged in a wonderful conversation regarding the trades and the different opportunities they may have in that field!
